The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team continued its unbeaten start on Sunday, sweeping SUNY Adirondack in its home doubleheader to improve to 10-0 on the season.
In Game 1, the Vikings blanked SUNY Adirondack, 5-0, behind a dominant pitching performance from Brendan Shea. Shea spun six scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out eight while walking four to earn the win. Sean Moore finished the game with a scoreless inning of relief, and the Vikings' defense stayed sharp behind him. Offensively, Hudson Valley got all the runs it needed from a steady attack, with Logan Norman providing the key breakthrough by homering to right field in the fourth inning. Norman finished 2-for-3 to lead the Vikings at the plate.
Game 2 belonged to Red Maron, who powered Hudson Valley to a 14-4 win with a three-hit, three-RBI performance. Maron launched a first-inning home run to left field, added a double in the third, and singled in the fourth as the Vikings pounded out 15 hits in the nightcap. Hudson Valley built an early lead with RBI hits from Frankie Torres, Nico DeSanto and Nick Commisso, then broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning. That rally featured a two-run double from Robert Melo, an RBI single from Maron, an RBI groundout by Commisso, an RBI single by Nicholas Mirabile, and another run on an error.
Jeremy Graham earned the win on the mound, working five innings and allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out six and walking three. Hudson Valley also stayed aggressive on the bases, swiping eight stolen bases in the victory. DeSanto, Commisso and Maron each finished with three hits, while Commisso and Maron drove in three runs apiece.
With the sweep, the Vikings remain unbeaten at 10-0 and continue to build momentum heading into their next series.
Hudson Valley returns to action on Tuesday, March 31, when the Vikings travel to face Fulton-Montgomery at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
