The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team delivered a dominant four-game sweep over Jefferson Community College across April 25 and April 26, combining explosive offense with clutch pitching performances. The weekend was capped by a memorable Senior Day at home, highlighted by major career milestones from sophomore standouts Logan Norman and Alex Deitz.
Hudson Valley opened the series on the road Saturday with a commanding 24-1 victory. The Vikings erupted for 19 runs in the third inning in one of their most explosive frames of the season. Melo led the charge with two home runs, including a grand slam, and six RBIs. The offense tallied 17 hits, with multiple players contributing to the outburst. Rosario earned the win on the mound, tossing four strong innings while allowing just one unearned run and striking out five.
In game two on April 25, the Vikings continued their offensive momentum with an 11-3 win to complete the road sweep. Melo stayed hot at the plate with another home run and multiple RBIs, while Commisso added a three-run homer. Trudeau picked up the win, going 6.2 innings and striking out four. Norman contributed with two hits and two stolen bases as Hudson Valley once again applied pressure on the basepaths.
Returning home for Senior Day on Sunday, the Vikings were tested but responded with two hard-fought victories. In game one, Hudson Valley edged Jefferson 5-4. After falling behind early, the Vikings answered with a four-run first inning sparked by timely hits from Commisso and Maron. Moore earned the win with a solid six-inning outing, and the defense played clean, error-free baseball to secure the victory.
Game two provided the most dramatic moment of the weekend, as Hudson Valley rallied for a 6-4 win to complete the sweep. Trailing late, the Vikings surged ahead in the sixth inning behind a two-run single from Logan Norman, followed by RBI hits from Melo and Commisso. Deitz earned the win in relief, striking out four over four innings.
The Senior Day finale was made even more special as outfielder Logan Norman recorded his 100th career hit during the victory, while pitcher Alex Deitz reached his 100th career strikeout, marking a pair of significant milestones for the sophomore class.
Hudson Valley will look to carry its momentum into the week as the Vikings travel to SUNY Adirondack on Tuesday, April 28 for a doubleheader scheduled at 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
