The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team wrapped up play at the Region 3 Final Four on Friday after falling to top-seeded SUNY Niagara, 8-0, before dropping a 9-3 decision to Herkimer College in an elimination game at Cayuga Community College.
The Vikings conclude regional play with a remarkable 35-5 overall record following one of the most successful and record-breaking seasons in program history. Hudson Valley will now await possible selection for an at-large berth to the NJCAA Division III World Series.
Game One: SUNY Niagara 8, Hudson Valley 0
Hudson Valley opened the day against SUNY Niagara in the winner's bracket round but could not overcome a strong Thunderwolves pitching performance in an 8-0 loss. Niagara broke through in the fifth inning behind a solo home run before adding to the lead in the sixth inning with another long ball.
Sophomore Brendan Shea turned in a solid outing on the mound for the Vikings, striking out six batters over five innings while allowing three runs on three hits. Offensively, Joshua Ortiz and Nick Commisso each recorded two hits to lead Hudson Valley at the plate.
Game Two: Herkimer 9, Hudson Valley 3
In Friday night's elimination game, Hudson Valley battled back multiple times before Herkimer scored six runs in the ninth inning to secure a 9-3 victory.
The Vikings opened the scoring in the first inning when Red Maron delivered an RBI double. After Herkimer built a lead, Logan Norman answered with a solo home run in the fifth inning to pull Hudson Valley within one run. Hudson Valley tied the game at 3-3 in the eighth inning on an RBI single from Joshua Ortiz before Herkimer pulled away in the final frame. Maron led the Vikings offensively with a 3-for-5 performance and two stolen bases, while Ortiz, Norman, and Maron each drove in runs. Hudson Valley also played error-free defense in the contest.
Despite Friday's results, the 2026 Vikings put together a historic campaign that featured dominant performances throughout the spring, numerous conference and regional honors, and several additions to the program record book.
Hudson Valley now awaits potential selection to continue its season at the NJCAA Division III World Series.
