Hudson Valley Community College baseball standouts Robert Melo and Logan Norman have been recognized among the nation's best, earning NJCAA Division III All-America honors following outstanding seasons that helped lead the Vikings to a 35-4 record, a Mountain Valley Conference Championship, and a Region 3 Final Four appearance.
Melo earned First Team All-America honors after producing one of the most dominant offensive seasons in program history. The sophomore first baseman appeared in all 40 games and batted .444 while recording 55 hits, 14 doubles, four triples, and a program-record 16 home runs. He drove in a school-record 70 RBI and scored 59 runs while compiling a .545 on-base percentage and an impressive 1.008 slugging percentage. Melo also drew 26 walks, was hit by a pitch 10 times, and added nine stolen bases.
His outstanding season earned him Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year honors while also being named First Team All-Region and a member of the All-East Division Team. Throughout the season, Melo established himself as one of the most dangerous hitters in NJCAA Division III baseball, rewriting the Hudson Valley record book by setting new single-season program records for home runs and RBI. His offensive production played a pivotal role in the Vikings' conference championship season and ultimately culminated in NJCAA First Team All-America recognition.
Norman was named a Third Team All-American after capping off one of the most accomplished careers in Hudson Valley baseball history. The sophomore outfielder started all 40 games and put together a remarkable offensive season, batting .500 with 71 hits in 142 at-bats. He scored 70 runs, collected 17 doubles, four triples, four home runs, and drove in 46 RBI while posting a .572 on-base percentage and .761 slugging percentage. Norman also showcased his speed on the basepaths, stealing 36 bases while being caught just once all season.
One of the most consistent hitters in the region, Norman reached base in nearly every game and demonstrated exceptional plate discipline, drawing 24 walks while striking out only seven times in 173 plate appearances. His efforts earned First Team All-Region, First Team All-Conference, All-East Division Team, All-Glove Team, and Region 3 Final Four All-Tournament Team honors.
Norman concludes his Viking career as one of the most decorated players in program history. He leaves Hudson Valley as the program's all-time leader in career hits (122), runs scored (119), and doubles (32). He also holds the program's single-season record for runs scored and was a key contributor to the Vikings' success throughout his two-year career.
Together, Melo and Norman anchored one of the most productive offenses in Region 3, helping the Vikings capture a Mountain Valley Conference Championship and advance to the Region 3 Final Four. Their NJCAA All-America selections represent the highest individual honor awarded by the association and serve as a testament to their dedication, performance, and impact on the Hudson Valley baseball program.
