Feliz Navidad! Jared Navidad Sets Kicking Records in Dominant Win

The Hudson Valley Community College football team returned to action determined to ends its two-game skid on Saturday afternoon as they hosted the undefeated Erie Kats at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of HVCC.
The Vikings accomplished its goal with ease as they dominated the majority of the game, winning 42-14. HVCC outscored the Kats 30-0 in the second half after trailing 14-12 at the halftime break.
Hudson Valley's kicker, Jared Navidad single-handedly kept the Vikings in the game, hitting a program record five consecutive field goals, before the Vikings offense connected on three touchdowns and 21 fourth-quarter points for a comfortable win.
Navidad's five field goals were from a variety of distances, including a program-record 53-yards in the second quarter. He also hit a 48-yard field goal to give the Vikings a 12-7 lead with 18 second remaining in the opening half. Erie quickly responded with a kickoff return for a touchdown and the 14-12 halftime lead.
In the third, Navidad scored all nine of the Vikings points, connecting on field goals from 24 yards, 42 yards and 29 yards, respectively. Navidad, tallied 17 points, outscoring the Kats by three points.
Once the fourth quarter began, the Vikings pulled away with a quick 2-plays, 61-yards touchdown drive, which was capped by a 59-yard touchdown pass to Damien Santiago from Nathan Stone. Santiago finished the game with four catches for 119 receiving yards. Quasim Ashford and Chanse Bonner closed out the scoring with rushing touchdowns at 4:39 and 0:23 remaining in the game, respectively.
Navidad and the offense weren't the only heroes in the game today, the Vikings defense was dominant all day as they held Erie to 192 yards of total offense. They also grabbed four sacks and forced two fumbled turnovers.
Dominic Jones, Caleb Blane and Brandon White led the Vikings in tackles, with Jones leading the way with 13 total tackles. Jones added two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. Blane grabbed five tackles, one sack and 1.5 tackles for loss. White tallied seven tackles in the win.
The Vikings improved to 3-2 on the year and they return home next Saturday, October 4, for the home finale and sophomore day as they take on Connecticut Prep at 1 p.m. in Troy, NY.
