The Hudson Valley Community College men's basketball team suffered a pair of road losses over the weekend, falling to Corning Community College, 65–59, on Saturday before dropping a 91–84 decision to Genesee Community College on Sunday.
At Corning, the Vikings held a slim 26–24 lead after the first half but were outscored 41–33 in the second half as the Red Barons pulled away late. Fabian Wheatley led Hudson Valley with 18 points off the bench, while Kemontae Thawe added 16 points. Marcus Steele chipped in seven points, and Ian Fisher-Layton and Jacob Baccaro each scored six.
Hudson Valley bounced back with a strong offensive showing the following day at Genesee but came up short against the host Cougars. The Vikings trailed 44–32 at halftime before putting together a 52-point second half. Thawe led all scorers with 30 points, adding five assists, while Baccaro contributed 13 points. Wheatley finished with 12 points off the bench, and Fisher-Layton added nine points and seven rebounds.
The Vikings will look to regroup and get back on track when they return to conference play on the road at Herkimer College on Tuesday, February 3, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
