The Hudson Valley Community College men's lacrosse team dropped a home contest to the College of DuPage, 24-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex. With the loss, the Vikings move to 1-5 overall (0-1).
Hudson Valley came out strong in the opening quarter, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead behind unassisted goals from Nathan Stone and Josh Whitmore. DuPage responded quickly, closing the first quarter on a 6-0 run to take control of the game.
The Chaparrals continued to build momentum in the second quarter, adding five more goals while holding the Vikings scoreless to take an 11-2 lead into halftime.
After the break, Hudson Valley found the back of the net once in the third quarter when Dylan Ryan finished a feed from Stone, but DuPage's offense remained relentless, scoring 13 goals in the second half to secure the 24-3 victory.
Stone (1 goal, 1 assist), Whitmore (1 goal), and Ryan (1 goal) accounted for the Vikings' scoring. Defensively, Hudson Valley recorded 24 ground balls, with multiple players contributing in the effort. In goal, Kevin Nicoll made seven saves in 38 minutes of action, while Brayden Cooper added six saves in relief.
DuPage was led by a dominant offensive performance from Tanner Polep (7 goals, 4 assists) and Bennett Jones (7 goals, 3 assists).
The Vikings will look to bounce back on Wednesday, April 1, when they return to the Outdoor Athletic Complex to face Jefferson at 1:00 p.m.
