The Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer team (0-1, 0-1) battled the heat and the NJCAA number-three ranked Herkimer County Community College on Thursday, Sept. 2 to come away with a 3-2 loss to the Generals.
The Vikings played Herkimer even through much of the first half before letting in the first goal of the game with just over 10 minutes to play in the half. Herkimer extended its lead to two in the second half before Vikings forward Joe Lombardo (Orchard Park, Orchard Park) put Hudson Valley on the board with 15 minutes left. After another Herkimer goal made the score 3-1, Hudson Valley forward Miguel Pinto (Windham-Ashland-Jewett/Windham) put the Vikings within a goal, scoring off of a set piece at the 9:12 mark. The Vikings had several chances to tie the game in the last five minutes, but could not capitalize.
Goalie Renardo Dixon (Central/Bridgeport, CT) kept the Vikings in the game with 10 big saves.
The men's soccer team will be back at home against Albany College of Pharmacy on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 4:30 p.m.
