The Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer team earned a decisive 6-1 victory over Tompkins Cortland on Friday afternoon, giving the Vikings a memorable Homecoming win and improving their record to 4-3 on the season.
Hudson Valley struck first in the 29th minute when Camryn Curet found the back of the net off a pass from Xavier Tubon. Tompkins Cortland responded with an equalizer late in the half, but the Vikings regained control just before the break as Joseph Davis scored to put the hosts ahead 2-1 at halftime.
The Vikings carried that momentum into the second half, with Davis tallying his second goal of the match in the 59th minute. Tubon then took over offensively, scoring back-to-back goals to extend the lead to 5-1. Curet sealed the victory in the 80th minute, converting a penalty kick to secure the 6-1 win.
Davis and Tubon each recorded two goals, while Curet finished with two goals and an assist in a standout performance. Hudson Valley outshot Tompkins Cortland 23-6, controlling the match on both sides of the ball.
The Vikings return to action next week as they welcom Fulton Montgomery to the OAC on September 24th at 4pm.
