The Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer team wrapped up the regular season on a high note Wednesday afternoon, defeating SUNY Broome 5-1 at home. With the win, the Vikings finish the season 7-7 overall and earn the #9 seed in the upcoming Region 3 Tournament. Hudson Valley will open postseason play on Saturday, October 25, when they travel to face #8 seed Onondaga at 1 p.m. in the first round.
After conceding an early goal just four minutes into the match, the Vikings responded in emphatic fashion with five unanswered goals to secure the convincing win. Freshman forward Camryn Curet led the offensive charge with a hat trick, scoring three goals and adding an assist.
Curet's first goal came in the 6th minute off an assist from Corbet Hallberg, leveling the match at 1-1. He then gave the Vikings the lead in the 38th minute with an unassisted strike before Miles Heggen added another just before halftime to make it 3-1.
Hudson Valley maintained its momentum in the second half, as Curet completed his hat trick in the 50th minute with help from Michael Robyck, who later added a goal of his own in the 80th minute off a feed from Logan Healy.
The Vikings dominated play throughout, outshooting Broome 30-1 and controlling possession from start to finish.
Hudson Valley will now turn its attention to the postseason as they face Onondaga Community College in the Region 3 First Round on Saturday.
