The Hudson Valley Community College softball team dropped both games of a road doubleheader to Mercer County Community College on Saturday, falling 9-0 and 9-1. With the losses, the Vikings move to 1-5 on the season.
In game one, Mercer County broke the game open with a six-run third inning on the way to a 9-0 victory. Mercer got on the board in the first inning with an RBI double before adding to the lead with a big third inning highlighted by a solo home run and several run-scoring plays.
The Vikings collected three hits in the contest, with Katie Stevens, Sophia Currao, and Bridget Danskin each recording one. Hudson Valley also turned in a clean defensive performance, committing no errors in the field, while Danskin led the team defensively with five chances.
In game two, Mercer County again jumped ahead early and used a six-run fourth inning to secure the 9-1 win. Keeley Kristel started in the circle for the Vikings and struck out five batters over 5.1 innings of work.
Hudson Valley finished with five hits in the second game, led by Katie Stevens and Sophia Currao, who each recorded two hits.
The Vikings will look to bounce back when they return home on Saturday, March 25, hosting Monroe Community College for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
