The Hudson Valley women's soccer team came up just short in a 3–2 loss to North Country Community College on Wednesday afternoon.
North Country opened the scoring in the 5th minute when Ruby Owen found the back of the net. The visitors doubled their lead at the 30-minute mark on a goal from Talia Brammah. Hudson Valley answered before halftime, as Alessia Salierno scored in the 43rd minute to make it 2–1 heading into the break.
The Vikings carried that momentum into the second half and evened the match in the 60th minute when Grace Hogan scored unassisted to tie the game at 2–2. North Country regained the lead late, converting a penalty kick in the 75th minute by Ella Rejiba for what stood as the game-winner.
Hudson Valley outshot North Country 12–4 and held a 3–0 advantage in corner kicks, but could not capitalize on enough of its chances. Goalkeeper Olivia Kay played all 90 minutes for the Vikings, facing eight shots and recording five saves.
Hudson Valley will look to regroup and bounce back in its next match at home on Sunday, October 5th at 12pm against Finger Lakes. The Vikings will celebrate Senior Day and host the Averill Park Youth Travel Soccer Club U12 Girls' Team. The team will also be hosting a cleat drive to support local youth and community programs. The collection will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on October 5 at the HVCC outdoor athletic turf field. A designated drop-off box will be available on site, and donations of lightly used cleats of any size are welcome.
